WINTERMOUTH

a night at Wintermouth Lodge

Eight former college friends are lured back to an abandoned ski lodge in the Colorado Rockies by letters signed by Danny — the ninth friend, who vanished there two years ago. When a blizzard cuts them off and Danny's voice starts calling from the dark, they learn the flooded silver mine beneath the lodge hides something that speaks with the voices of the dead. Every choice decides who survives until dawn.

The Premise

One night. 8 PM to dawn.

Wintermouth Lodge was built above the flooded galleries of the Argent Silver Mine — closed in 1931 after fourteen miners drowned in a cave-in and were never recovered. Something down there has been listening ever since.

The Echo

It only says what it has heard.

The creature in the dark hunts by sound, and it lures prey by replaying human voices it recorded — perfectly, like a tape. There is no spooky font, no colour shift, no warning tag. If you want to know whether the voice at the door is your friend or the thing wearing their voice, you have to read for three tells.

Tell A

Verbatim replay

The Echo can only repeat words it has already heard. Its sentences are recycled, word-for-word, from lines you read hours ago. Pay attention and you can recognise the sentence.

Tell B

The metronome

People type with rhythm — pauses at commas, stalls on "…", the occasional stumble. The Echo renders metronomically: flawless, even, never hesitating, never interrupted.

Tell C

Frozen time

It doesn't understand elapsed time. It speaks from the moment it recorded — "come down, the party's still going" — as if nothing has passed at all.

What it is

A horror story you read in real time.

Branching choices

A JSON story graph with real forks — deaths, saves, and paths that stay closed once you pass them. Who lives is up to you.

The typewriter engine

Every line is revealed character by character. Human rhythm versus dead-flat metronome is the whole horror — no jump scares required.

Cinematic storyboard

Pre-generated stills and short clips carry each scene, Until Dawn–style, with an on-screen clock ticking from dusk to dawn.

Screenshot-friendly clues

The tells reward attention. Screenshot a line of dialogue now; recognise it when the dark says it back to you later.

Every choice decides who survives until dawn.
